GATE 2027 Exam Pattern

Every paper is a 3-hour computer based test of 100 marks and 65 questions: 10 General Aptitude questions (15 marks in total) and 55 subject questions. The paper has three question types:

  • MCQ: one correct option. A wrong answer loses one-third of a mark for a 1-mark question and two-thirds for a 2-mark question.
  • MSQ: one or more correct options, with no negative marking.
  • NAT: a typed numerical answer, with no negative marking.

There are no partial marks for any question type.

GATE 2027 Civil Engineering Paper

The CE paper carries 15 marks of General Aptitude, 13 marks of Engineering Mathematics and 72 marks of civil subjects. Candidates can attempt a second paper too, and the brochure allows CE to be paired with AE, AG, AR, ES, GE, NM and XE.

GATE 2027 Eligibility for Civil Engineers

There is no age limit. For the usual civil routes, the brochure allows:

  • B.E. or B.Tech: currently in the third year or higher, or already completed.
  • B.Arch: currently in the third year or higher, or already completed.
  • M.Sc, M.A or MCA: currently in the first year or higher, or already completed.
  • B.Sc, B.A, B.Com or BCA (three-year): currently in the third year, or already completed.

The brochure lists more degree types, such as medical and agriculture degrees. Check Table 2 of the brochure for yours.
