The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 notification for 480 vacancies. The notification came out on 16 September 2026, and applications are open until 6 October 2026. The exam has three stages: Prelims on 31 January 2027, Mains on 18 June 2027 and a Personality Test.

Selection Process

Prelims
2 objective (MCQ) papers, 500 marks total, 2 hours and 3 hours. Scheduled for 31 January 2027.

Mains
The Engineering Services (Main/stage-II) Examination will consist of two conventional type papers in Engineering Discipline specific with duration of three (03) hours and maximum marks of 600 (300 Marks in each paper). Scheduled for 18 June 2027.

Personality Test
The Stage-III will consist of Personality Test/Interview carrying 200 Marks.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Selection has three stages: Prelims, Mains and a Personality Test. Prelims has 2 objective (MCQ) papers worth 500 marks total (2 hours and 3 hours). Mains has 2 descriptive papers worth 600 marks total (3 hours each). The subject-wise syllabus, negative marking rules and Personality Test marks are in the official notification.
